Julie & Julia

A few months ago, a good friend called me in tears to ask if I could watch Julie&Julia with her after a very disappointing day.

I left my kitchen in a mess and happily agreed to lend my shoulder.

I had almost forgotten how badly I wanted to watch the film.  How much more this film was then an exploration of French cuisine! We both laughed aloud while connecting personally to the characters. Yes, perseverance and patience: my friend was comforted after not passing her certification exam learning that even Julia Child failed her first graduating exam! And even after passing her second time, it took her 8 years to publish her first cook! Granted this was 1961 and life was much much slower, 8 years? I don’t know if I could stay motivated that long.

As for me… I also start this blog/site in hopes to reach a network of people with whom I can share and learn. This site is a bridge between my work and passion, clients and friends, and simply, me and you… but discipline is something I’ve always lacked. I hope my purpose can wake me up at 5:30am – or, at least keep self awake till 5:30 since I am a natural night owl. I strive for that much dedication to this site.

Thank you Julie and (Julia&Julie) – the movie meant so much more having watched it with you.

  • Hello everyone!

I'm so excited to start this site/blog in which I'll share the best in holistic and natural health with you! How appropriate that I start this site the weekend after attending Expo West! The theme of this year was gluten-free pizzas, eco-friendly, plant based laundry detergent (with new brands launched), private-labeled detox programs, artisan agave nectar and stevia sweeteners like Truvia.

To start off our day of sampling packaged foods and beverages on the right foot, we fueled ourselves with stir-fried broccolini and eggs.

Asparagus and soft boiled eggs, kale and poached eggs, swiss chard and over easy, steamed broccoli and hard boiled... you can't go wrong with greens eggs minus the ham for a nutrition packed breakfast. What you start your day off with can set the mood for your entire day so choose wisely!

  • I try not to have high expectations with blockbuster films but Avatar did not disappoint!

The underlying theme of colonialism has been seen many times in past films as is in Avatar. With the help of an ingenious setting, captivating love story and the  oh-so-cool 3-D graphics, this film tells a story of the greed and corruption of humanity, destroying homes and lands for profit and power.

What I found most intriguing is the way that the film depicts that every living thing is connected to each other and in sync with each other. What looked like exposed neurons somehow sends and receives data to and from the magical land of Pandora.  Mike Adams of Natural News wrote a very detailed review of the film, in which he mentions a school in Italy that researches Plant Neurobiology, the study that plants indeed communicate with each other via chemicals.
  • I use this small but mighty tool just about everyday -- and most of the time, more than once a day -- so I figured it deserves a place on this site. Most of you probably own this mini blender or have at least seen the infomercials.

I've used a number of similar blenders, even before the Magic Bullet days, as my mom always had one in her kitchen to make marinades, chop garlic, and the like. I wanted to compare this one to the generic  brands my mom uses. On a random day flipping through channels 3 years ago, I made my very first (and only to date) infomercial purchase and have been pleased.

Though the product isn't a super blender (it won't make almond butter or chop up apples), it serves it's purpose as a blender. I makes smoothies, protein shakes, sauces, marinades, salad dressings, cashew cream yogurts, and much much more with this small by mighty tool. Especially because my food processor is so big (14 cup), I use this product way more often on a daily basis.
